How A Busy Person Stays Connected

How often do you say this day flew by? Or I can’t believe it’s Friday?

I feel like I say these all the time. Between running my social media and marketing company Katie DeVito, LLC, coordinating NJ Unemployed events plus building my Origami Owl business, I am always doing something. I mean I hit 100 designers on my team last night. Pretty amazing. Never in a million years did I think that when I signed up for Origami Owl that I would have 5 people on my team, but 100. I love Origami Owl!

That being said I’m always running somewhere for something. Not to mention there’s always plain ole life to deal with too. Staying connected is one of the most important things in my life (the hubby comes first). Between checking emails, my clients social media sites, my social media sites I don’t know what I would do without my devices.

I love that as a Verizon customer if I don’t have wifi on my devices I can always use the Personal Hotspot on my iPhone to connect my devices. This way I’m always connected!

My favorite devices? My iPhone and my iPad.

Blogher ’12 – Friday Recap

Friday Blogher ’12 Recap

On Friday I woke up and attended the Blogher luncheon. Then I hit the conference floor, where I met a ton of brands I already know and love and met some new companies as well.

Some of my fave brands:

Dannon – Of course! After all I was their brand ambassador and for good reason. I love Dannon!

Samsung – These folks seriously know what they are doing. Their smart refrigerator, smart washer & dryer are pretty unbelievable. You can shut your dryer off with your phone. Amazing! They also showcased a super smart TV where not only can you watch videos and still photos, you can play Angry Birds. There is a camera located inside the TV and you can exercise, play Angry Birds and more with your body and hand gestures. It’s insane! And… as much as I’m an iPhone gal I was really impressed with their Samsung Note. Really cool features.

Jamba Juice – Please come to Mercer County! I sampled the most amazing fresh squeezed orange juice ever! If there was a Jamba Juice near me I would be there every morning.

Hillshire Farms – I was introduced to a number of new products including the Maple Syrup Sausage Biscuits and a variety of sausages. Truly delish! I scored a few coupons so I can’t wait to head to the grocery store and stock up.

Best Buy – Was featuring some really cool products as well. Cotton candy machine, tech savvy pedometers and more. I think everyone needs a cotton candy maker in their house am I right? Plus I scored a gift card at their booth. Woo Hoo!

After hitting the booths I also attended the “Women in Washington” seminar which was pretty amazing. More women need to run for office!

Everything Happens For A Reason

“In writing this post, I’m entering the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover sweepstakes for a chance to win a head to toe makeover!”

I’m heading to Blogher ’12 in NY and would love nothing more than a makeover. Lord knows I need one.

Here’s why:

I’m in need of a wardrobe makeover. It’s been way to long since I’ve revamped my closet. I’m in desperate need of a new suit, black pants, comfy heels (is that possible?) and so much more.

In February 2010 I was laid off from my job (hubby laid off a few months before I) and sent a tweet out on Twitter asking who else was unemployed in NJ. This led to me forming NJ Unemployed. An organization that provides monthly programs for the community as well as online networking opportunities and legislative advocacy. From branding myself online I started my own social media & PR company in June 2010. I am an active member of my community sitting on various committees’ with the Mercer Chamber of Commerce, the International Governing Board of Delta Phi Epsilon and Board of Directors for Rider University Alumni Association. I’m a busy girl and don’t have much time to shop. Not to mention trying to save for a house so trying not to spend much.

When I got laid off my husband and I moved in with his parents as a way to save money until we secured employment. Unfortunately, my mother in law fell ill shortly thereafter and in October 2011 passed away from a blood disorder (myleofibrosis). Everything happens for a reason. I’m a firm believer in that. The best thing that happened to me was getting laid off from my job as I was able to start my own business and form NJ Unemployed. I’m happy that my husband and I moved in with our in-laws and I was able to help care for his mother in her final days.

Getting laid off was the best thing that has happened to me. Now that I’m a business owner I need to look the part. It’s been a long couple of years.

You’ve got to make lemonade out of those lemons that life hands you. Everything happens for a reason.

Let’s Talk About Tech Baby – Sony VAIO Product Review

Sony VAIO!!!!! Welcome to my life! Where have I been without you?

I was in desperate need of a technology makeover and seriously need a new computer. Enter @TheOnlineMom (Monica from The Online Mom) and the #TheOnlineMom Twitter party. I was so excited to win Monica’s giveaway that I literally freaked out, ran away from my computer and she thought she had lost me. Not true! I was freaking out to my hubby and father in law. Have you seen the Sony VAIO? I mean really! It’s beautiful.

Monica & I

Being that it was the week of Christmas and Monica and I aren’t too far away from each other we both drove about an hour and a half to meet up IRL (In Real Life) so I could get my brand new Sony VAIO. We met up on the Turnpike (INSERT JOKE HERE – What exit?) in Teaneck, NJ. It’s so much fun to meet one of your tweep’s in person. Which is why I love Blogher so much, but that’s another story.

My hubby loaded the Sony VAIO into the car, not without taking a few photos of course and then we headed on what surely was longer than an hour and a half home where we would hook up my brand new PC.

He took it out of the box and OMG it’s gorgeous! I mean gorgeous! I’ve never thought of a PC as being beautiful but my goodness. All we had to do was put the stand on my desk (you can also mount it to the wall), put the PC on top and plugged it in. Easiest setup ever!

I pressed on and the color! The color and screen is brilliant! Speaking of screen, did I mention that the Sony VAIO is a touch screen? Oh yeah! It’s a touch screen but it also comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse so whichever you prefer that’s what you can do.  And at 24” this screen is insane.

My hubby immediately downloaded Google Chrome since there is so much RAM on the Sony VAIO and now I could finally test it out. Surfing the web is super-duper fast. I’ve never been able to surf the web so quickly in my life. My smartphone is pretty fast but other technology not so much. Being in the social media industry, the ability for me to surf the web fast and feverishly is very important.

I also installed Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010 so I would be able to use Excel and Word. Super easy to install as well.

Ok so I was super excited to play around with Windows Live and Moviemaker. In no time at all I became a filmmaker. No really I’m a filmmaker now. Take a look at my Gingerbread House Extravaganza video I wrote, produced, edited, etc. all by myself in literally a matter of minutes. Look out Spielberg! After I made my video it was very easy to upload it to YouTube using Windows Live. (Feel free to take a look at this previous post HERE.)

I also love that I can just drag & drop photos/files from my email into my desktop. It is so user friendly.

I had been holding out on listening to music, until today. I finally downloaded the Adele cd. This was the perfect opportunity to test out the sound of my VAIO. I did a double take because I thought Adele was in my office.  The Dolby surround sound makes it sound like I’m right there live at an Adele concert.

I’m telling you this computer has absolutely everything!

My New Year’s Resolution

My New Year’s resolution is to blog more. That simple! This past year I’ve made some amazing friends through my social media networks and have worked with some incredible brands. I am very lucky and grateful.

It hasn’t been the easiest of years so I must admit I’m happy to see 2011 go. Am looking forward to a happy, healthy and social New Year.

See ya next year!
