Beauty, Bullying, Real Housewives of OC Season 8, Family and More with Heather Dubrow – PART 2

PART 2 with Heather Dubrow

Quick 5

ME: Fave junk food treat

HEATHER: Twizzlers (We both agreed Twizzlers beat out Red Vines hands down. We even chatted about biting off the ends of the Twizzlers and using them as straws. You know you’ve done it too.)

ME: All time fave movie

HEATHER: There’s so many. Aside from all the major classics like “The Wizard of Oz”. “Flashdance”, “Ice Castles” any of those girlie, young performance, dance, ice skating, singing type of films.

ME: Fave musical theater song because I know you sing. I was actually a theater major in college.

HEATHER: Really? Where did you go?

ME: I went to Rider in New Jersey. (We chatted briefly about how I ended up not pursuing anything with my theatre degree.)

HEATHER: This is hard.

ME: Ok if you had to go into an audition tomorrow and sing something what would it be?

HEATHER: Trying to think of my old audition songs. I do love “I Don’t Know How To Love Him” from Jesus Christ Superstar.

ME: That’s a good one.

HEATHER: I’d probably audition with something from Les Mis.

ME: I love Les Mis too.

ME: Fave store or brand

HEATHER: I always say Chanel because I love Chanel. But I feel their prices are so out of control right now I’m almost turned off. I’m going to say Valentino.

ME: Fave magazine

HEATHER: I like a bunch of them. I’m gonna say Vogue.

ME: Do you do your own social media?

ME: What social media site do you love the most? Twitter maybe?

HEATHER: I do like Twitter. I don’t understand Facebook at all. (We then chatted about different media platforms and different sites to help manage accounts.)

HEATHER: The word bullying. Are you on Twitter? Do you follow me on Twitter?

ME: I do!

HEATHER: So you’ve seen all the bullying talk with Alexis because of what happened in Costa Rica. How do you feel about that?

ME: I think she’s ridiculous.

HEATHER: Ok good, ok so you understand. This is what I have to say about it. It is so not appropriate in this context; it’s not applicable in this context to use the word bullying. That’s an incredibly serious statement. It’s a serious issue and to make light of it like that I just think it’s crazy. We are all cognizant that we are on the show to show our relationships and be vocal about our opinions of the other cast members. If you have filters, you have to take those filters out. This is what the show is about. It’s allowing the audience to get into our brain and say what they want to say and hear what they want to hear. The realness of it. This is Alexis’s 3rd season, she’s very aware. She’s very aware of how it works. I think it’s really easy when things get turned on you and it makes you uncomfortable and it hits too close to home to run to your corner and cry victim. But I don’t think it’s fair and I think it’s an easy out.

ME: I agree.

HEATHER: She and I had gone back and forth and back and forth on Twitter. I’m tired of the name calling and whatever. I actually have no ill feelings towards her. We had some very nice times together. I think it’s unfortunate how things happen. We had a really nice conversation after the reunion in the parking lot. We hugged and sort of apologized to each other for the misconceptions and some issues and whatever. We hugged. We texted each other. So I thought, ok great, maybe not best friends but we can accept each other. But then 2 days later she gave a really rude interview about me in the press and I thought ok well there you go.

ME: I think she’s just unhappy with herself and that’s the big problem.

HEATHER: Yea know what you could be right. As far as I’m concerned, her chapter’s closed. I wish her and her family well. I have no ill feelings towards them.  She’s not a bad person. I hope she’s happy in her life.

Beauty, Bullying, Real Housewives of OC Season 8, Family and More with Heather Dubrow – PART 1

ME: How do you manage it all? Being a wife, mother, and actress and having cameras in your face all day long?

HEATHER: I drink a lot. No I’m kidding. It’s a balance but life is a balance. Sometimes I do well, sometimes I don’t. If I could freeze right now I’d say today is a good day. The kids are happy, Terry’s good. I’m constantly trying to figure out if I’m servicing everyone well enough, my kids my husband and myself and constantly reevaluating. I may be too hard on myself sometimes. Last season I talked a lot about my acting career. Obviously that’s had to go on the back burner. I’ve had 4 kids in 8 years, I’ve been busy. Aside from a few things here and there, I really haven’t been working. Being on the show now, and people seeing my face, it reminds Hollywood who you are.  Now I’m receiving some cool interesting opportunities, so what I’m trying to figure out now again is what can I actually do that will satisfy me creatively and be enough for me without taking anything away from the family. It’s an ever changing thing to manage it all.

ME: You are currently filming season 8 correct?

HEATHER:  I don’t believe an official pick up has been announced for Season 8 by BRAVO yet.

ME: Do you know if anyone will be or will not be returning should Season 8 happen?

HEATHER: Well, one person has been pretty vocal. I would say hypothetically if we were to do Season 8 I think most people would come back.

ME: Even Alexis?

HEATHER: My understanding is that she won’t be returning.

ME: You are married to the premiere plastic surgeon. What are your beauty rituals? What products do you use on your face? Favorite beauty products?

HEATHER: I like to keep it incredibly simple. My husband is a naturalist and he wants everyone to look healthy and pretty and he wrote a book a few years ago called “The Acne Cure” which basically tells you how to cure your acne for very little money. His new product line, which I can’t live without, which he’s re-launching is really just about getting beautiful skin for very little money. It doesn’t take a fortune to improve your skin. As I’m getting older I find my skin is changing so much and I hear it from all my friends too. His products are phenomenal, very simple, and very easy to use. Love that! Not a lot of lotions and potions.

ME: I’ve heard bits and pieces about you possibly starting a beauty line or is there going to be a collaborative effort with your husband?

HEATHER: I have helped him with his line and I will continue to do so. I’m his at home guinea pig. I try it out and I have sensitive skin. It’s changing as I get older. I’m also someone who really likes Cetaphil soap. It’s very pure and natural. I think less is more. That’s basically our philosophy for everything. For plastic surgery, skincare.

ME: I know you are very involved with the 2nd Harvest Food Bank. Are there any other organizations you are involved with that you’d like to share?

HEATHER: I am involved with the 2nd Harvest Food Bank. I’m a part of a group called the Harvesters.  I’m incredibly passionate about feeding kids. What I’ve noticed and I don’t know the exact numbers but I feel like so many organizations are feeding kids around the world which I think is fabulous but I would like to focus on feeding kids here at home. The restaurant that we are in the works with and food products we are working on right now are all gonna give back to feeding our kids.

ME: Is there a possibility of having another child?

HEATHER: (Heather laughed hysterically) Wait…let me tell that to my assistant.  (Her assistant’s response “Oh God”.)

ME: So I guess that’s a no?

HEATHER: I love kids. If I were 10 years younger I’d probably want one more. But I’m old and tired. My husband and I got married a little bit later, we had kids a little bit later and we had a lot of fertility problems. We went through fertility treatments and had the twins, went back to fertility and had Catarina, and then we thought we were done and low and behold I got pregnant naturally with Little Miss Colette. So that was a shocker. She’s amazing and she’s funny but she’s so much work. And you forget. Especially right now she’s 21 months and she can’t communicate so she’s frustrated but she’s so stinking cute. I think they make them that way so you can’t go nuts on them. She’s amazing and I feel incredible blessed. To have her. But I did have my tubes tied when I had her. So that was it. We closed that door.

ME: Who’s your RHOC BFF?

HEATHER: Ohhh I have to say I have such good relationships with Tamara, Gretchen & Vicki. I’d have to say I’m closest with Tamara, because I met her first and she and I really just initially bonded over our kids. We have similarly aged children and we just sort of hit it off. I felt she was sort of my buoy in the storm when I first joined the show.

ME: I actually met Tamara Barney 2 years ago. We bonded over having the same purse. She’s very cool and down to earth.

HEATHER: She is. She’s very down to earth, very authentic. She and I are very different. She doesn’t have a lot of filters. Not everyone has to be exactly the same. That’s what makes life interesting. I appreciate the fact that she is very true to herself and she’s unapologetic about it.

ME: Do you watch the other Real Housewives shows?

HEATHER: I watch the Beverly Hills franchise.

ME: Do you have a favorite cast member?

HEATHER: I kind of love them all. I know Adrienne because Paul used to work with my husband. I’ve met them all. I think their all really nice, but I’d probably be friends with Lisa and Kyle.

Interview with Tracy DiMarco – Jerseylicious Season 2 Red Carpet Premiere

Katie – @KateFoxx wrote me and wanted to know is there an end to the feuding in sight between you and Olivia? I’m thinking no.

Tracy – There will never be an end, you know why? Because everyone thinks I’m the bitch but she is the vindictive, spiteful, revengeful person. She is dating my ex-boyfriend now and you guys will see that this season.

Katie – Get out!

Tracy – And she was all about sloppy seconds, but look who’s doing it now.

Katie –   @KateFoxx also wants to know if you could transform any celebrity into a true Jersey girl, who would it be and why?

Tracy – I would transform Katy Perry. She is way too California girl. She needs some teasing, smoky eye. She’s halfway there, but she needs to get on the east coast. Jerseylicious girl not California girl. She’s fun. She would be able to hang with us.

Katie – What’s the biggest thing you’ve learned since your new found fame on “Jerseylicious”?

Tracy – To stay really, really humble because people don’t like when things go to your head. I can’t stand that. There are a couple of people on this show that they can’t fit through the door anymore, ya know what I mean? You really need to thank your fans. You should always respond to their Facebook, Twitter, email anything.

Katie – You are great at that!

Tracy – I am! That’s my biggest thing. I do it every day. I take an hour out of my day every single day and I respond to as many people as I can. Because they are the people that make us anything. We are nobody. We’re not celebrities we’re just people and people follow us. For some reason people think we’re cool enough. I don’t think we are. Maybe we are. You just need to stay really grounded  because otherwise, fans will go away if they see the true celebrity in you.

Katie – Best advice you’ve gotten since being on the show?

Tracy – Respect the fans. They are so excited to meet you. What most people don’t understand is that I’m so excited to meet them. When they come up to me I get nervous. I’m like oh my god, you wanna talk to me? It’s so much fun. I get really excited that they even care. That’s why I like to stay in contact with them because they are the best people in the world.

Katie – You are so super sweet, but there are the Tracy haters. Anytime anyone ever says anything, I’m like seriously she’s like the sweetest girl.

Tracy – I am! I really am!

Katie – What is something your fans would be surprised to know about you?

Tracy – I refuse to speak in the morning until I brush my teeth. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night  and if I wake up and open my eyes, I have to brush my teeth. It’s a really OCD thing.

Katie – Who of all the celebs that you’ve met, would you say is your favorite and who has the best style?

Tracy – The same person for both. Jeannie Mai from the Style Network’s “How Do I Look” its right before our show. She was the nicest person and has the most insane style. Also Simon from Kim Kardashian’s “The Spin Crowd”, he is a doll and Jonathan. I met Kendra, the Kardashian’s, Meryl Streep, a whole bunch of people, but those two are my favorite. They were the most down to earth.

Katie – What changes are we going to see at the Gatsby this season?

Tracy – Well Gayle and Alexa get a little crazy. They fight about everything.

Katie – But she’s here tonight so it must not be too bad.

Tracy – No they are professional. They’re not like me and Olivia. When they want to fight about something, they go hard. I think the staff changes a little bit. Filippo’s more involved now. We have a new girl named Veronica, who’s very sweet. We have a lot more people working on the floor. We have Sammy the receptionist. So we have a lot of brand new people.

Katie – So now Briella… wasn’t Briella friend’s with Olivia last season?

Tracy – Yes.

Katie – But she’s here today without Olivia and the two of you guys seem to be getting along. I’ve been noticing that.

Tracy – Yes.

Katie – Just something I noticed.

Tracy – All I’m gonna say is Briella woke up and realized who her so called friend really was.

Katie – Interesting.

Tracy – You try to be Olivia’s friend for more than six months, it won’t work out. She’s a sociopath.

Interview with Anthony Lombardi – Jerseylicious Season 2 Red Carpet Premiere

Anthony Lombardi and his wife Patty

Katie – How’s the Anthony Robert Salon going?

Anthony – Everything’s great! Busy! Thank God!

Katie – What changes are we going to see at the Gatsby this season?

Anthony – You’re pretty much going to see what you saw last season, only a little amped up a bit. You’re going to see some different alliances form. You may see a little clashing of the Titans maybe so to speak. You might see the teacher become the student in one of the episodes.

Katie – I heard that.

Anthony – You’re going to see a couple of different things. I’m the teacher but I might become the student for something. I can’t tell you what though.

Katie – Maybe you’re going to learn how to make pizza.

Anthony – Ya never know .

Katie – I think I just figured that one out.

Anthony – You’re off on that. You’re off but you’re close.

Anthony Lombardi & Filippo Giove

Katie – What is the biggest thing you’ve learned since your new found fame on “Jerseylicious”?

Anthony – I never realized that so many people watch TV. I’m glad for it. I’m loving the fact that we go out and get recognized. So far it’s all been fun.

Katie – Best advice you’ve gotten since being on the show?

Anthony – Keep it real. Remember who you are, remember who your friends are. The guy who taught me how to cut hair is here tonight. He’s fantastic.

Katie – What’s something that your fans would be surprised to know about you? Any weird tricks? Maybe you don’t know how to dance?

Anthony -  I don’t know how to dance! I’m not a good dancer. I would be the first one voted off of “Dancing with the Stars”.

Katie – I’d call in. I’d vote for you Anthony.

Katie – What’s it like to have your life on television? Do you regret putting anything out there?

Anthony – Absolutely not! It’s been a wonderful experience, the crew and the producers have been absolutely 100% perfect. They didn’t portray me in any different way. I couldn’t be happier with the way I come across on the television.

Katie – I agree. You are absolutely the same on TV as you are in person.

Jerseylicious Red Carpet Premiere

Not for nothing, but this past Sunday, I was looking pretty Jerseylicious as the hubs and I headed off to the “Jerseylicious” red carpet premiere at LUA in Hoboken, NJ. Being that I’m a Jersey girl and a reality TV lover, this was the place to be.

LUA Restaurant, Hoboken, NJ

We arrived at LUA and the place was already hopping. Everyone was in great spirits and excited to congratulate the cast of Gatsby Salon’s” Jerseylicious.” We found a spot near the bar and I quickly realized we were right near all the action. The cast and their families were all around us.  I walked up to a few of the cast members and congratulated them on the show. I must say, the cast really worked the crowd, walking around saying hi to everyone. No signs of Alexa or Olivia though.

The premiere was organized by The Hip Event in Montclair, NJ and they assured me that the cast will be answering questions in the press room. About half an hour after being there, we went into the press room, each cast member spoke to each person from the press. I had already thought about what questions I would ask. I wanted to be original and fun, like my Blues Traveler interview. Enough of the “what are you wearing, what do you think of the Jerseylicious v. Jersey Shore” business.

Jerseylicious Cast Gigi Liscio, Anthony Lombardi. Tracy DiMarco, Gayle Giacomo and Christy Pereira (l-r)

First up, Anthony Lombardi, who owns the Anthony Robert Salon in Verona, NJ.  Anthony and I already chatted it up a bit earlier and I knew he was a totally down to earth guy. I’m not one to brag, but before Anthony and I started the interview he told me that my husband and I were his faves. I’m not shocked, we’re Jerseylicious too. We were there to have a good time and watch a fun show about our home state, Jersey baby.

Anthony said he’s proud to be from Jersey and that’s what makes him Jerseylicious. “I’m proud of everything the State has to offer. I love everything about this State, I’m a Jersey boy at heart and I wear it on my sleeve and if that makes me Jerseylicious, so be it” he stated. When I asked Anthony what Jersey celebrity he thought had the best style, he took off his hat, displaying his shaved head and said “I gotta say Bruce Willis. He’s another Jersey boy that lets it all out there, he made it big and he’s not afraid to say he’s from New Jersey.” Anthony always uses a little Bay Rum on his head after shaving and says it feels fantastic.

Christy the salon manager, who is also Gayle’s daughter, came over to speak with me next.  She is proud to be a Jersey Girl and said “I think all us Jersey girls have our own style and originality. We’re loud and bold and not afraid to say what we want to say.” Christy’s favorite NJ celebrity is Bon Jovi. “Even for a gentleman, he has great hair, he always looks great. I love the fact that he’s never too dressed up. He’s my all time favorite.” Christy’s go-to style product her Gatsby hairspray.” I can’t live without it” she said with excitement. Who knew the Gatsby Salon had their own product line? I sure didn’t. At one point during the night I was able to chat it up in the ladies room with Christy. We talked about Twitter and I offered to give her a Twitter 101 lesson if she ever wanted. I told her it’s a great tool to market the company and herself.

Gayle Giacomo, Gatsby Salon owner, says she really likes style and has always liked to look nice. “I want to be the best I can be, even at 52. I think our women in Jersey care about what they look like, it means a lot to us.” She really looked beautiful for the premiere. Jon Bon Jovi would have agreed, he’s her fave Jersey celebrity. Her favorite products are the SkinCeutical line and Kérastase for her hair.

Another new addition to the salon, Gigi is full of personality and said that her hair and nails are what makes her Jerseylicious. She is proud of her nails and stressed that they are real and she cut them down recently. She stated “being Jerseylicious means being well put together, feeling good about yourself and being confident.”  For cosmetics Gigi loves MAC and for hair she likes Chi hairspray, Kérastase and Goldwell.

Last but not least, I had the opportunity to chat with Tracy who was looking super stylish in her leopard print dress and teased out hair. I asked her what makes her so Jerseylicious and she said “I think that I don’t take no for an answer, I don’t let people tell me what to do. I mean I’m my own person, I’ve never followed anyone in my life.”  She discussed her role on the show and said she’s pretty much the “I don’t take anything from anybody kinda girl”. Tracy said we will see that and how Olivia tries to push her around but it doesn’t really work out for her. Like Gigi, Tracy said her hair is the most Jerseylicious thing about her.  She is a self-proclaimed tease queen. “Tray tease that’s what everyone calls me.”  Jerseylicious is about personality and, being friendly and nice to everyone, she said. “I mean it’s the greatest place to be, Jersey, and everyone needs to stop hating on it.” Hear Hear!

Asking Tracy what NJ celebrity’s style she adores she stated without hesitation “Bruce is pretty up there”.  Being that my husband is a huge Springsteen fan, and Anthony already stated he loves Bruce Willis’s style, I needed to clarify. My husband was eagerly awaiting an answer.   “Bruce Springsteen or Bruce Willis? If you say Springsteen, my husband is going to be very happy” I said. “Oh yeah I was saying Springsteen. Who doesn’t love Baby Bruce?” Tracy replied. So now we know who my husband’s favorite Gatsby Girl is, Tracy, without a doubt.

Tracy is a huge fan of Chi Helmet Head hairspray. She swears your hair won’t move and stay in place forever. “People say oh my hair doesn’t stay. That product, it will never let your hair fall. It’s the best thing on the market” Tracy declared.

We ended up grabbing a drink with Tracy at the end of the night when the place was clearing out. We talked about Bruce (Springsteen that is), the show and more. I was a pleasantly surprised how nice Tracy was. I saw the previews before the premiere, and they make her out to be the not so nice one. But like she said earlier in the night, she’s just a Jersey girl who doesn’t take no for an answer and isn’t a follower. I can respect that. She’s really just a Jersey girl. Since I’m a Jersey girl born and raised, I get it.

Guests watch the premiere of Jerseylicious

Next up the viewing party. There were TV’s scattered around the bar and we all gathered around cheering on the cast and watched the premiere episode. The show is about the re-invention of the Gatsby Salon in Green Brook, NJ. The owner Gayle decided to renovate Gatsby Salon a decade after her husband’s passing, with the help of her daughter Christy, the salon manager. Not only did they want to change the physical look and feel of the salon, by updating it, they wanted to bring in some fun younger new stylists to help with the salons re-birth. The cast is full of bold, bright personalities with tons of style and flair. The remaining episodes will document the lives of the new stylists as they enter a new journey with the Gatsby Salon.

Right before we left LUA, we ran into Brielle Morelli, a Season 2 Jerseylicious hopeful. Brielle is hoping to land a role as a featured cast member for next season. She’s super sweet and we are crossing our fingers for her.

After meeting this super cool, down to earth cast, I am without a doubt a Jerseylicious fan. The show is fun and totally Jersey. How could you not love it?

Make sure you check out Jerseylicious on the Style Network Sunday nights 10/9 c.
