Saturday Blogher ’12 Recap

Had a wonderful breakfast and made some new friends (that’s the point right?). Got to meet Elly from Buggin Word. If you didn’t meet her you have to hunt her down next year in Chicago. She’s a blast. And she plays the ukulele!

My day of course consisted of walking around the expo space but I also attended some pretty amazing seminars.

I attended Katie Couric’s keynote luncheon and learned all about her new show “Katie” coming September 10th. Trust me this is a show you won’t want to miss. I love how the new show is going to be very women focused as well as social media focused. Katie is also going to be featuring bloggers at each show. Love that! Check out her keynote HERE!

Some of my fave brands:

Duck – You know the Duck Rape folks! Check out there booth! Amazing what you can do with duck tape.

Zicam – Made my own bracelet with charms which I thought was super cute and a nice little remembrance. I took a charm that said “I Love to Blog”. Appropriate right? Can’t wait to try out Zicam next time I feel a cold coming on.

Hershey’s/Wal-Mart S’mores suite – Ok I loved it 2 years ago and loved it again. I mean if you don’t love S’mores there’s seriously something wrong with you. Trivia – The first printed record of the S’mores recipe appeared in a Girl Scout handbook in 1927.

Starbucks – We were among the first to check out the new Starbuck’s Verismo which is not even in stores yet. It’s a super-convenient, single-cup machine for making espresso-based beverages at home. And it’s coming in late 2012 – just in time to be a splendid gift to you or a coffee lover you know.

Kiss & Broadway Nails – As you know from my previous post I love Kiss & Broadway. This time I got to try out the Nail Dress products which I was super excited about. You put on the adhesive nail color and it goes on over your nail. Then you file your nails so that it fits the shape of your nail perfectly. They come in some really cool colors/patterns, even leopard.

They hubby and I grabbed food from The Halal guys because I had been dying to try them. It was delish!

Then I headed to the Land’s End party off-site.

Came back to the Hilton and attended the first ever Blogher Fashion Show. Click HERE to watch a recap.

Headed to the Cheeseburger Party, followed by a goodbye cocktail with my new friends Debbie & Heather.

As you can tell I had a blast at Blogher ’12. What a whirlwind! Can’t wait til next year!

Everything Happens For A Reason

“In writing this post, I’m entering the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover sweepstakes for a chance to win a head to toe makeover!”

I’m heading to Blogher ’12 in NY and would love nothing more than a makeover. Lord knows I need one.

Here’s why:

I’m in need of a wardrobe makeover. It’s been way to long since I’ve revamped my closet. I’m in desperate need of a new suit, black pants, comfy heels (is that possible?) and so much more.

In February 2010 I was laid off from my job (hubby laid off a few months before I) and sent a tweet out on Twitter asking who else was unemployed in NJ. This led to me forming NJ Unemployed. An organization that provides monthly programs for the community as well as online networking opportunities and legislative advocacy. From branding myself online I started my own social media & PR company in June 2010. I am an active member of my community sitting on various committees’ with the Mercer Chamber of Commerce, the International Governing Board of Delta Phi Epsilon and Board of Directors for Rider University Alumni Association. I’m a busy girl and don’t have much time to shop. Not to mention trying to save for a house so trying not to spend much.

When I got laid off my husband and I moved in with his parents as a way to save money until we secured employment. Unfortunately, my mother in law fell ill shortly thereafter and in October 2011 passed away from a blood disorder (myleofibrosis). Everything happens for a reason. I’m a firm believer in that. The best thing that happened to me was getting laid off from my job as I was able to start my own business and form NJ Unemployed. I’m happy that my husband and I moved in with our in-laws and I was able to help care for his mother in her final days.

Getting laid off was the best thing that has happened to me. Now that I’m a business owner I need to look the part. It’s been a long couple of years.

You’ve got to make lemonade out of those lemons that life hands you. Everything happens for a reason.

Relaxing at the Red Door Spas

The moment I entered the Red Door Spas on 54th Street in New York City I was greeted with friendly faces and great customer service. I walked in and was ushered to the 9th floor where I would be receiving their Signature Massage with Kimberly. I was shown the changing area, got ready and then headed over to the relaxation lounge.

The relaxation lounge was beautiful! Sometimes it’s the little things. There were magazine racks on both sides of the relaxation room and they had the same magazines on both racks and all the newest March issues. It may not seem that important to you, but it’s the little things for me that get noticed.

Kimberly my masseuse came to greet me with a warm smile and handshake. She really has a nurturing calm about her and I knew right away she would take me away to a blissful place during my hour with her.

Within the first 5 minutes of my massage with her I said “you are so fluid”. I’ve never had such a fluid massage. I was so relaxed. I even caught myself starting to doze off, which never happens.  Kimberly was absolutely amazing. I can’t wait for my next visit.

After my massage with Kimberly I headed back to the relaxation room to drink some water then changed. I did happen to make a pit stop in the bathroom and it was beautiful. But more importantly smelled INCREDIBLE! I headed to the front desk on the 9th floor and asked about the reed diffusers in the bathroom. I needed one! I smelled every single candle and reed diffuser but ended up purchasing the same one that was in the bathroom of which I admired, the ILLUME Pineapple Cilantro Aromatic Diffuser.

After I made my purchase, the front desk staff informed me I could head down to the 8th floor for my complimentary makeup refresher.  They told me that no matter what service you get done you are automatically eligible for a complimentary makeup refresher. Amazing! Especially since I was just face down on a massage table, I could use a refresher.

I headed to the 8th floor where I met Monique the makeup maven. Monique was terrific! She punched up my lip color, applied some plum shades to my lids. One would never have known I just came out of a massage. I looked great. I often use plum shades on my lids to bring out the green in my eyes and loved the Elizabeth Arden Smoky Eyes Powder Pencil in Black Violet so much that I purchased that as well.

I was in love with Monique the makeup maven’s hair so much and asked her who did it. She told me Zahir is her go to guy for hair and made the introduction to me. Zahir suggested if I want to keep the length to keep longer layers but that I would look great with a few inches cut off with some shorter layers and side swept bangs.

The second I walked in to the Red Door Spa I felt like a VIP with the full royal treatment. I can’t wait for my next visit!

Red Door Spas also has a Refer a Friend program. Both you and your friend can save 20% off a service with this program. How great is that? To learn more click HERE.

*I received my Signature Massage gratis from Red Door Spa in exchange for a blog review. My thoughts are my own.

Blogher 2010 – New York, NY

Where do I even begin? Blogher 2010 was absolutely incredible! From the great seminars, inspiring keynotes, the celebrities, fun exhibit halls and I can’t forget the swag. This was the best conference I have ever been to (and I’ve planned conferences). San Diego Blogher 2011 here I come!

It was so nice to finally meet some of my tweeps face to face, plus make some new friends. Plus the hubs and I had a little date night Friday and headed over to China Grill. The food was amazing and their mango martini to die for. People have asked me what the highlight of my trip was and I don’t have one. I have a gazillion!

Due to all the fun things I want to talk about relating to Blogher 2010, I’m going to break it down in different posts based on topic. Stay tuned!
