What Will We Learn in Dorinda Medley’s Memoir Make It Nice?

Dorinda Medley may no longer be making it nice on the Real Housewives of New York City but she is in her new book Make It Nice. Available today August 17th on AmazonRHONY fans will be able to delve deeper into the Blue Stone Manor’s former housewife Dorinda.

What will we learn in Dorinda’s memoir?

Will we learn more about her marriage to Richard Medley? Her cathartic first return to London since the passing of her late husband Richard Medley was chronicled in a 2015 episode of RHONY.

Will we find out what actually happened to cause the breakup between her and John Mahdessian? In season 12, Dorinda revealed her breakup with long time partner and dry cleaner extraordinaire, John Mahdessian.

More details as to why Dorinda left the RHONY franchise? Many rumors as to why the RHONY alum left the BRAVO franchise are constantly swirling. Was it because of the turkey baster comment?

Dorinda’s book deal came right before Dorinda’s exit from RHONY

Prior to Dorinda’s RHONY exit last year, she was presented with the opportunity to chronicle her life in her new tell-all. According to her publishing company Simon & Schuster The Real Housewives of New York City fan-favorite Dorinda Medley takes fans inside her roller-coaster life and iconic Blue Stone Manor to share how they, too, can Make It Nice.

“Throughout her life, Dorinda Medley has always strived to “make it nice” regardless of the circumstances. In her incredibly candid memoir, the Real Housewife of New York City opens the doors of Blue Stone Manor, her Berkshires sanctuary, welcoming fans into her beloved home. In her first-ever written life story, Dorinda clips away all pretense and noise to unveil the not-so-glamorous bumps in the road that have marked her colorful journey toward becoming the person viewers, colleagues, and friends know and love today. This is a vulnerable and emotional account of love, motherhood, loss, and the not-entirely-planned adventure from her modest beginnings in the Berkshires to her personal, social, and professional ascent—told in her trademark manner.”

Taking a Housewives Pause – Pause & Effect

“She was in a bad place, her house had been flooded, her dad was sick,” Andy Cohen stated. He went on to say “Sometimes taking a pause is a good thing and I am really hopeful that this is indeed a pause and that she would rejoin the show at some point. I think a pause is a good thing and she will come back renewed and refreshed.” BRAVO super-fans have been very vocal about their desire for Dorinda to come back to the franchise.

On Dorinda’s IGTV from June 10th, she read fans a brief excerpt of her upcoming memoir and read “a person is shaped as much by her failures as they are by their successes, yes that girl is ME!” as she let out a squeal.

From the sounds of it, Dorinda’s new book may be more inspirational and empowering than some might be expecting. Possibly similar to Margaret Josephs book Caviar Dreams, Tuna Fish Budget: How to Survive in Business and Life

Per her press release, “Chronicling the life of the reality television star, Make It Nice also features life lessons for those who may experience similar challenges, as well as the celebrated hostess’s invaluable entertaining tips, all presented with the humor and wit that have “oh-so-well made” Dorinda Medley a most compelling compilation.”

Dorinda’s new book is available now on Amazon.

Interview with Lisa Hochstein from The Real Housewives of Miami

Last night was the season premiere of The Real Housewives of Miami and recently I had the opportunity to chat with cast member Lisa Hochstein.

Katie: What made you decide to shoot RHOM?

Lisa: I thought it would be a great opportunity. I’ve had a lot of aspirations to have my own brand within the fitness, nutrition, clothing maybe jewelry arenas.

Katie: How has being on the show affected your life?

Lisa: It’s definitely made me a public person. It’s different because people really feel like they know you because you are letting them into your home, and see your personal life. You’re talking about all the trials and tribulations and triumphs in your life and that’s out there for everyone to see. So a lot of the time people will come up to me and talk to me like we’ve been friends for years, which is really nice.

Katie: Last season you were trying to get pregnant. Any chance you might adopt?

Lisa: As of right now we don’t have any intention to adopt. We are staying focused on continuing with the fertility treatments and having our own biological child.

Katie: Are you pregnant?

Lisa: I am not pregnant right now. I wish!

Katie: I hear you are developing your own fitness products. Can you tell me a little more about that?

Lisa: Basically in the past few months I’ve been testing out some products to make sure that it meets my standards if I have to modify anything. Rome wasn’t built overnight and I have a really good team that I’m working with that are guiding me along the way. We are hoping everything will be in place by the summer. Right now we are focusing a lot on the skincare.

Katie: In a recent Shape magazine article you said – “Every morning I make a protein pancake with honey on it, and then I eat five more small meals throughout the day and a protein shake after working out to feed my muscles.” Care to share your pancake recipe?

Lisa: Yes! Lisa’s Protein Power Pancake Recipe

Katie: Also, I’m sometimes skeptical of too much protein. I don’t want to bulk up. What are your thoughts?

Lisa: I love lots of protein. It doesn’t bulk you up. If you eat lean protein it helps you maintain your muscles and keep you nice and toned. I also think women don’t eat as much protein as men. I have this philosophy that could be why we age a little faster. The reason I say this is because protein is feeding your muscles and your muscles are attached to your skin, in your face not so much in your body. So if you are feeding your muscles it’s keeping your skin and face nice and tight.

Katie: What is your #1 trick to staying so fit? Is it more fitness or nutrition?

Lisa: It’s a combination of both. If I had to choose one, number one would be nutrition. Even if you’re working out and you’re eating like crap you’re gonna look like crap.

Katie: It’s so hard to not eat right. I recently joined a gym but I feel like my nutrition hasn’t changed and I know that if my nutrition doesn’t change I’m obviously not going to see the results I want.

Lisa: You might as well stop going to the gym. You’re cheating yourself. You may be building nice muscle, but you will still maybe have a layer of fat that you’re not going to lose by eating horribly. You have to eat right. That’s number 1 and working out aids to that. You can give yourself a cheat day. I feel every 5 to 6 days you should give yourself a cheat day. Have a cheat meal, not necessarily cheat day. That way you have something to look forward to and it’s motivating when we have something to look forward to.

Katie: I know you said you are currently working on a skincare line. What is your beauty routine now and what are some of your favorite products you are currently using?

Lisa: The products I’ve been testing are what I’ve been using. My routine takes me about half an hour each night. I really make sure I never go to sleep with makeup on my face. Not a drop of makeup, because that’s how you clog your pores, your skin can’t breathe. I give myself a facial once a week. I do my masks, a moisturizing mask and my clay mask once a week. I always go in the steam room because I feel that’s the best way to clear out your pores and release toxins from my body. It definitely makes my skin glow and it helps the masks and creams absorb better into my skin. I use a cleanser daily and also use a scrub twice a week. My skin can be oily especially living in Miami so I use a moisturizer that’s oil free and I use benzoyl peroxide cleanser for my face, and then a toner that really deep cleanses the pores and that’s how I keep it looking the way it does. Because if I didn’t do that I would have a little bit of acne on my face. I am prone to it. I always use a serum. I think using a serum is super important. Also, I never leave the house without SPF 50 every single day. I think that definitely contributes to the way my skin looks.

Katie: Do you use a serum and a moisturizer at night?

Lisa: Yes. I use a serum and moisturizer day and night always. Never forget the serum because that’s what’s giving you all the nutrients and giving you the ingredients that help your skin look its best. The moisturizer is usually just a moisturizer.

Katie: Do you watch the other Real Housewives?

Lisa: I do. I particularly like Beverly Hills and Atlanta.

Katie: Do you watch any other reality shows?

Lisa: Not really because it’s so time consuming to watch so much TV. I generally don’t watch much more TV. I do like the show “Breaking Bad” however. It’s one of my favorite fictional shows.

Katie: Fave band/musician?

Lisa: I have so many. That’s a tough question. I love Beyoncé. I actually walked down the aisle to the song “Halo”. So she’s probably my favorite female singer. I also really love hip hop. That’s actually my music of choice. If I’m working out I love to listen to house and I love listening to Calvin Harris. He’s probably my favorite house DJ.

Katie: Fave brand/designer

Lisa: If I’m going to a red carpet event I really love Emilio Pucci, Herve Leger , Dolce & Gabbana, I think they make the most beautiful creations. I also like clothes by Torn, I think it’s really affordable for everyone and very stylish, so chic and fashion forward. I also love Mason by Michelle Mason. Her stuff is so well made for the price point. I think everyone should have a piece like that in their closet. Really beautiful stuff.

Katie: Spray tan? Tanning Bed? Out in the sun?

Lisa: No way will I lay out in the sun and no tanning beds. That is something I will never do to my skin. It’s the number 1 thing that will contribute to you aging. I always get a spray tan even though they say it’s still not the best for you. To me it’s better than laying out in the sun. I love to have a little color because  it makes your body look more lean, trim and fit. It makes you look healthier.

Katie: Last song played on your iPod?

Lisa: That new Florence and the Machine house song. It gets me going and gives me goose bumps. Music is definitely my drug. I’m very passionate about music. I love hip hop and house music. I’ve always had a little fantasy to produce my own house music.

Katie: You should!

Lisa: I used to be a pianist believe it or not as a young girl and used to play the clarinet in band. I’m such a band dork! I have an ear for it. When I first hear a song I can always tell if it will be a hit or not. I’ve always wanted to produce my own music.

Katie: Do you do your own social media? I think you do.

Lisa: Yes I do my own social media. I don’t think people would necessarily want to follow you if somebody else was sending, posing, tweeting, Instagraming as you. If I follow someone it’s because I want to see what they have to say. Not what someone else is saying on their behalf.

Katie: What’s your favorite social media site?

Lisa: I love Instagram. It’s right there on your phone and just an easy app to use. It’s so visual, it’s all pictures. When I’m at the gym doing cardio that’s when I do a lot of my social media. I hate cardio just like everyone else, it’s just not fun. So when I’m working out a great way for me to pass the time is through social media and catching up on what my friends and family are doing. I’m catching upon people I follow and tweeting myself. It’s a great way to stay fit and get things done.

Katie: I recently joined a gym and I too get bored doing cardio. I tend to watch TV and also bring a magazine. It’s a great way for me to get through my magazine pile.

Beauty, Bullying, Real Housewives of OC Season 8, Family and More with Heather Dubrow – PART 2

PART 2 with Heather Dubrow

Quick 5

ME: Fave junk food treat

HEATHER: Twizzlers (We both agreed Twizzlers beat out Red Vines hands down. We even chatted about biting off the ends of the Twizzlers and using them as straws. You know you’ve done it too.)

ME: All time fave movie

HEATHER: There’s so many. Aside from all the major classics like “The Wizard of Oz”. “Flashdance”, “Ice Castles” any of those girlie, young performance, dance, ice skating, singing type of films.

ME: Fave musical theater song because I know you sing. I was actually a theater major in college.

HEATHER: Really? Where did you go?

ME: I went to Rider in New Jersey. (We chatted briefly about how I ended up not pursuing anything with my theatre degree.)

HEATHER: This is hard.

ME: Ok if you had to go into an audition tomorrow and sing something what would it be?

HEATHER: Trying to think of my old audition songs. I do love “I Don’t Know How To Love Him” from Jesus Christ Superstar.

ME: That’s a good one.

HEATHER: I’d probably audition with something from Les Mis.

ME: I love Les Mis too.

ME: Fave store or brand

HEATHER: I always say Chanel because I love Chanel. But I feel their prices are so out of control right now I’m almost turned off. I’m going to say Valentino.

ME: Fave magazine

HEATHER: I like a bunch of them. I’m gonna say Vogue.

ME: Do you do your own social media?

ME: What social media site do you love the most? Twitter maybe?

HEATHER: I do like Twitter. I don’t understand Facebook at all. (We then chatted about different media platforms and different sites to help manage accounts.)

HEATHER: The word bullying. Are you on Twitter? Do you follow me on Twitter?

ME: I do!

HEATHER: So you’ve seen all the bullying talk with Alexis because of what happened in Costa Rica. How do you feel about that?

ME: I think she’s ridiculous.

HEATHER: Ok good, ok so you understand. This is what I have to say about it. It is so not appropriate in this context; it’s not applicable in this context to use the word bullying. That’s an incredibly serious statement. It’s a serious issue and to make light of it like that I just think it’s crazy. We are all cognizant that we are on the show to show our relationships and be vocal about our opinions of the other cast members. If you have filters, you have to take those filters out. This is what the show is about. It’s allowing the audience to get into our brain and say what they want to say and hear what they want to hear. The realness of it. This is Alexis’s 3rd season, she’s very aware. She’s very aware of how it works. I think it’s really easy when things get turned on you and it makes you uncomfortable and it hits too close to home to run to your corner and cry victim. But I don’t think it’s fair and I think it’s an easy out.

ME: I agree.

HEATHER: She and I had gone back and forth and back and forth on Twitter. I’m tired of the name calling and whatever. I actually have no ill feelings towards her. We had some very nice times together. I think it’s unfortunate how things happen. We had a really nice conversation after the reunion in the parking lot. We hugged and sort of apologized to each other for the misconceptions and some issues and whatever. We hugged. We texted each other. So I thought, ok great, maybe not best friends but we can accept each other. But then 2 days later she gave a really rude interview about me in the press and I thought ok well there you go.

ME: I think she’s just unhappy with herself and that’s the big problem.

HEATHER: Yea know what you could be right. As far as I’m concerned, her chapter’s closed. I wish her and her family well. I have no ill feelings towards them.  She’s not a bad person. I hope she’s happy in her life.

Beauty, Bullying, Real Housewives of OC Season 8, Family and More with Heather Dubrow – PART 1

ME: How do you manage it all? Being a wife, mother, and actress and having cameras in your face all day long?

HEATHER: I drink a lot. No I’m kidding. It’s a balance but life is a balance. Sometimes I do well, sometimes I don’t. If I could freeze right now I’d say today is a good day. The kids are happy, Terry’s good. I’m constantly trying to figure out if I’m servicing everyone well enough, my kids my husband and myself and constantly reevaluating. I may be too hard on myself sometimes. Last season I talked a lot about my acting career. Obviously that’s had to go on the back burner. I’ve had 4 kids in 8 years, I’ve been busy. Aside from a few things here and there, I really haven’t been working. Being on the show now, and people seeing my face, it reminds Hollywood who you are.  Now I’m receiving some cool interesting opportunities, so what I’m trying to figure out now again is what can I actually do that will satisfy me creatively and be enough for me without taking anything away from the family. It’s an ever changing thing to manage it all.

ME: You are currently filming season 8 correct?

HEATHER:  I don’t believe an official pick up has been announced for Season 8 by BRAVO yet.

ME: Do you know if anyone will be or will not be returning should Season 8 happen?

HEATHER: Well, one person has been pretty vocal. I would say hypothetically if we were to do Season 8 I think most people would come back.

ME: Even Alexis?

HEATHER: My understanding is that she won’t be returning.

ME: You are married to the premiere plastic surgeon. What are your beauty rituals? What products do you use on your face? Favorite beauty products?

HEATHER: I like to keep it incredibly simple. My husband is a naturalist and he wants everyone to look healthy and pretty and he wrote a book a few years ago called “The Acne Cure” which basically tells you how to cure your acne for very little money. His new product line, which I can’t live without, which he’s re-launching is really just about getting beautiful skin for very little money. It doesn’t take a fortune to improve your skin. As I’m getting older I find my skin is changing so much and I hear it from all my friends too. His products are phenomenal, very simple, and very easy to use. Love that! Not a lot of lotions and potions.

ME: I’ve heard bits and pieces about you possibly starting a beauty line or is there going to be a collaborative effort with your husband?

HEATHER: I have helped him with his line and I will continue to do so. I’m his at home guinea pig. I try it out and I have sensitive skin. It’s changing as I get older. I’m also someone who really likes Cetaphil soap. It’s very pure and natural. I think less is more. That’s basically our philosophy for everything. For plastic surgery, skincare.

ME: I know you are very involved with the 2nd Harvest Food Bank. Are there any other organizations you are involved with that you’d like to share?

HEATHER: I am involved with the 2nd Harvest Food Bank. I’m a part of a group called the Harvesters.  I’m incredibly passionate about feeding kids. What I’ve noticed and I don’t know the exact numbers but I feel like so many organizations are feeding kids around the world which I think is fabulous but I would like to focus on feeding kids here at home. The restaurant that we are in the works with and food products we are working on right now are all gonna give back to feeding our kids.

ME: Is there a possibility of having another child?

HEATHER: (Heather laughed hysterically) Wait…let me tell that to my assistant.  (Her assistant’s response “Oh God”.)

ME: So I guess that’s a no?

HEATHER: I love kids. If I were 10 years younger I’d probably want one more. But I’m old and tired. My husband and I got married a little bit later, we had kids a little bit later and we had a lot of fertility problems. We went through fertility treatments and had the twins, went back to fertility and had Catarina, and then we thought we were done and low and behold I got pregnant naturally with Little Miss Colette. So that was a shocker. She’s amazing and she’s funny but she’s so much work. And you forget. Especially right now she’s 21 months and she can’t communicate so she’s frustrated but she’s so stinking cute. I think they make them that way so you can’t go nuts on them. She’s amazing and I feel incredible blessed. To have her. But I did have my tubes tied when I had her. So that was it. We closed that door.

ME: Who’s your RHOC BFF?

HEATHER: Ohhh I have to say I have such good relationships with Tamara, Gretchen & Vicki. I’d have to say I’m closest with Tamara, because I met her first and she and I really just initially bonded over our kids. We have similarly aged children and we just sort of hit it off. I felt she was sort of my buoy in the storm when I first joined the show.

ME: I actually met Tamara Barney 2 years ago. We bonded over having the same purse. She’s very cool and down to earth.

HEATHER: She is. She’s very down to earth, very authentic. She and I are very different. She doesn’t have a lot of filters. Not everyone has to be exactly the same. That’s what makes life interesting. I appreciate the fact that she is very true to herself and she’s unapologetic about it.

ME: Do you watch the other Real Housewives shows?

HEATHER: I watch the Beverly Hills franchise.

ME: Do you have a favorite cast member?

HEATHER: I kind of love them all. I know Adrienne because Paul used to work with my husband. I’ve met them all. I think their all really nice, but I’d probably be friends with Lisa and Kyle.
