Deena Cortese of Jersey Shore Talking Final Season, Weddings & More

Tuesday night I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Deena Cortese from The Jersey Shore at Just Restaurant in Old Bridge, NJ. We talked everything from Jersey Shore finale to showing her cooka and will she be in Snooki & J-Wow’s weddings.

Me: Why is it important to you to be at this Breast Cancer awareness event/has someone close to you been effected by this specific disease?

Deena: Breast cancer and all cancers are everywhere. The opportunity to raise money for breast cancer is an amazing feeling. Actually, my cousin had breast cancer and she lost both of her boobs, but she’s doing well now. Probably due to great fundraisers like this.

Me: If you didn’t do Jersey Shore what would you be doing?
Deena: I’d probably be doing dental assisting. But now no one will probably let me work on their teeth.

Me: It’s Jersey Shore’s last season. What can we expect during the remaining episodes of Jersey Shore?
Deena: Up until 8 I was a little depressed and down and out. I had a few rough times and that was the first time I really had any rough times during the seasons I was there. Sometimes I think you need to hit rock bottom so you can start building yourself back up. That’s kind of what happened. After I hit episode 8 I hit rock bottom, went into a panic attack. The rest of the season you will see Nicole and I start hanging out more again. I think the rest of the season for me is gonna be more fun rather than me sad.

Me: What plans do you have now that the show is ending?
Deena: I partnered with a hair salon in Manalapan called Whisper, so now I’m working with Whisper hair products. We are working on getting it into bigger places. I’ve also been working on a clothing line called Short Couture. It’ll be a clothing line for anyone and make every woman feel sexy.

Me: Ok did you have a meatball tonight?
Deena: My friend Mallory is my meatball. And my publicist Melissa is my meatball.

Me: Are you going to be in the bridal party for Jenni or Nicole’s wedding?
Deena: As of now I am. They both asked me to be bridesmaids, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Me: Fave club down the shore?
Deena: D’Jais in Belmar
Me: Fave bar down the shore?
Deena: D’Jais! No I like Jenks!

Me: Biggest regret while filming Jersey Shore?
Deena: Biggest regret while filming was probably showing my cooka.

Me: Best thing/most exciting thing that has happened to you since filming Jersey Shore?
Deena: Just being able to do fundraisers like this and bringing people in. Going to the VMA’s was one of the most amazing things. That’s what I dreamt about when I was little. Then I was there and people were screaming for me and was like this is crazy.

Me: Favorite cast mate?
Deena: I like all my roommates, but probably Nicole.

Me: Now this is coming from my intern’s friends in college. OK: You have Mike, Vinny, and Pauly D. from the shore house. You have to marry one, kill one, and have sex with one. Who do you choose?

Deena: Well I’m probably not going to have sex with any of them cause I see them as my brothers now. Plus I have a boyfriend and he probably wouldn’t like that. I feel bad killing Mike. Marry probably Vinny or Pauly. I feel Vinny is a family guy and Pauly is just fun.

Me: When driving in the car and “your song” comes on the radio and you’re like “that’s my song”… what it is?
Deena: One of my favorite songs to dance to now is that song by Ke$ha “Die Young”. We have a blast to that song. Or “Let Me Love You” by Nee-Yo. I really enjoy that song when it comes on.

Me: Anything else you’d like to say to my readers:
Deena: Thank you for watching the show and supporting us.
Me: You guys are doing the Hurricane Relief Fundraiser on MTV Thursday night right?
Deena: We are actually doing a telethon Thursday (Nov. 15th) at 11pm to help raise money for Seaside Heights.

Tune in tonight for a new Jersey Shore episode at 10pm EST, followed by a Hurricane Relief telethon at 11pm EST.

Madonna’s MDNA Concert 9/15/12

On Saturday, September 15, 2012 I attended my very first Madonna concert. That being said, not only did I attend but I won tickets for the Golden Triangle (which for those of you who don’t know is in front of the pit).

I brought my hubby (he has seen Madonna before) and we walked all the way down to the floor and literally under part of the stage to be in between the stage.

The show was AMAZING! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a concert like it in my life. It was like going to a Broadway show. SO many set changes, costumes changes it was incredible. My hubby kept joking with me because I wasn’t dancing or singing barely at all I was staring wide-eyed at an incredible show and was just in complete awe over the production of it all.

For years I’ve said that Madonna is someone I always wanted to see in concert and my wish finally came true.

Below you’ll find her set list she played as well as some photos we took.

You may also watch a few video clips I took as well.

Everything Happens For A Reason

“In writing this post, I’m entering the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover sweepstakes for a chance to win a head to toe makeover!”

I’m heading to Blogher ’12 in NY and would love nothing more than a makeover. Lord knows I need one.

Here’s why:

I’m in need of a wardrobe makeover. It’s been way to long since I’ve revamped my closet. I’m in desperate need of a new suit, black pants, comfy heels (is that possible?) and so much more.

In February 2010 I was laid off from my job (hubby laid off a few months before I) and sent a tweet out on Twitter asking who else was unemployed in NJ. This led to me forming NJ Unemployed. An organization that provides monthly programs for the community as well as online networking opportunities and legislative advocacy. From branding myself online I started my own social media & PR company in June 2010. I am an active member of my community sitting on various committees’ with the Mercer Chamber of Commerce, the International Governing Board of Delta Phi Epsilon and Board of Directors for Rider University Alumni Association. I’m a busy girl and don’t have much time to shop. Not to mention trying to save for a house so trying not to spend much.

When I got laid off my husband and I moved in with his parents as a way to save money until we secured employment. Unfortunately, my mother in law fell ill shortly thereafter and in October 2011 passed away from a blood disorder (myleofibrosis). Everything happens for a reason. I’m a firm believer in that. The best thing that happened to me was getting laid off from my job as I was able to start my own business and form NJ Unemployed. I’m happy that my husband and I moved in with our in-laws and I was able to help care for his mother in her final days.

Getting laid off was the best thing that has happened to me. Now that I’m a business owner I need to look the part. It’s been a long couple of years.

You’ve got to make lemonade out of those lemons that life hands you. Everything happens for a reason.

My huge shopping spree – Kmart Sears Land’s End Review

I love that I can buy items from Kmart, Sears and Land’s End with any of their gift cards. Recently I won a Kmart gift card from the #kmartchat Twitter party hosted by @crissy, @mommyinsider, @jollymom, @kmart and @stacieinatlanta. As you can imagine I was thrilled because that meant…. Shopping spree for me! I was in need of a few items and this great win was going to allow me to purchase a few items I’ve been needing. Ok and maybe not really needing.

First stop…. Kmart of course. I was hoping to find a tablet case but wasn’t successful. That’s ok, I got the mousepad I needed. It has a memory foam wrist spot to eliminate wrist pain from using the mouse. I also picked up a few household items too.

Next up Sears…. I’ve been dying for a dutch oven. Not quite sure why I didn’t own one previously but was realizing a lot of recipes I wanted to try called for one. It’s on! Dutch oven here I come. I bought the cutest red dutch oven as well as a food chopper. One of the main reasons I wanted a dutch oven was to finally make Julia Child’s famous Beef Bourgionne. (See my previous post HERE.)

I still have money to spare, now what? Besides Sears wide variety and great prices, they also have an entire Land’s End department. Again… it’s on. I bought the cutest black velvet blazer. Perfect to dress up jeans in the fall and winter. I also bought another cardigan set, I’m addicted to theirs. Plus 3 draped open cardigan sweaters. All the same, but in brown, black and grey. Oh and another grey sweater. Everything I purchase was on sale which was awesome plus I used my Sears Rewards so I could rack up points towards my next purchase.

All this for under $250. You heard me right! Kitchen goods, a new wardrobe and I still have some money to spare.

Thank you #KmartChat for a great party and all my new goodies. You rock!
